Town leaders opened the week by reflecting on a busy community calendar and celebrating the success of the recent Fisherman's Fest. Looking forward, residents were encouraged to attend the Art Walk downtown this Friday and the Fall for Scituate event on Sunday in North Scituate. "It was a wonderful event," the moderator said of the recent festival, adding that the upcoming fall celebration "is always tons of fun" and a great opportunity for families to gather.
Town Administrator James Boudreau detailed a comprehensive list of infrastructure projects, including seawall repairs on Surfside and Oceanside Roads and sewer pipe lining. He noted that water flushing near the Driftway and fire pump testing at the library may cause temporary water discoloration. Boudreau also shared a specific caution for residents near the sewer work on First Parish and Damon Roads, advising that "we ask that you keep your toilet seats down as the work can sometimes cause pressure and splashing in your toilet when they’re working outside your house." He also issued a call for donations to the food pantry, stating they are "appreciative of all your help" as they seek specific items like canned stews and herbal teas.
Representing the School Committee, Maria Fenwick announced that site preparation for the new elementary school building is officially commencing. "We will begin to see trees being taken down and construction fencing being put up this week," Fenwick noted, while also highlighting that "Jenkins families will notice that new windows are being installed" as part of ongoing maintenance. Fenwick also took a moment to celebrate district staff and inclusion efforts, noting that Scituate High School has been named a Special Olympics Unified Champion School, which she described as "a very prestigious award" for the community. The school committee is set to meet tonight to discuss out-of-state field trips and middle school scheduling.
