Scituate officials gathered Monday morning to celebrate a significant milestone for the town’s educational infrastructure. Select Board member Nico Aonosenko opened the week’s news update by highlighting the official groundbreaking of the new Hatherly Cushing Elementary School. "Congratulations to the school administration and everyone involved in the new Hatherly Cushing Elementary School," Aonosenko said, noting that while construction begins, the town also remains active with various community events, including upcoming Select Board office hours and a volunteer beach cleanup scheduled for Saturday morning.

Town Administrator James Boudreau provided a detailed status report on several critical shoreline projects funded in part by FEMA. Work is currently concentrated on Surfside, Seaside Road, and Oceanside Drive, with crews expected to begin concrete pours for the Oceanside seawall replacement as early as next week. Boudreau also took a moment to acknowledge a viral social media update from the Select Board chair regarding the local beaches. "If we get a hundred responses on our post, it’s pretty good. This one got over 1,400," Boudreau noted, calling the high level of community engagement "tongue-in-cheek" and well-received by residents.

On the educational front, School Committee member Peter Gates shared that the district has officially launched a revamped digital presence to improve communication with families. "We’re also thrilled to announce the Scituate Public Schools website is now up and running," Gates said, urging parents to visit the new scit.org and download the Parent Square app for real-time updates. Gates also reminded the public that the School Building Committee continues to meet regularly to oversee the Hatherly project, with their next public session scheduled for October 15th at 5:30 p.m.

The update concluded with a call for community support for the Scituate Food Pantry, which is currently facing increased demand. Boudreau listed several high-priority items needed by the pantry, including canned meats, stews, and specialty teas, which can be dropped off at the library or local markets. Additionally, residents were reminded that the Scituate Town Library will be closed this Thursday, October 9th, for staff training, though book returns will remain accessible to the public.
