Scituate officials gathered Tuesday morning to outline a packed autumn schedule, headlined by the release of the warrant for the upcoming Fall Special Town Meeting. Select Board member Freya Schlaggel opened the update by highlighting a significant agenda for the board's evening session, noting that the group will be discussing several important topics including sewer expansion in North Scituate, an update on the Cole Parkway redevelopment plan as well as the potential expansion of aquaculture. Schlaggel also invited residents to the West End this Saturday for Octoberfest at the Mount Hope Society, featuring hayrides to the Appleton Field Community Garden and "not so scary" haunted tower tours at Lawson Tower hosted by the Scituate Historical Society.
Town Administrator James Boudreau reported that the community successfully weathered the season's first Nor'easter with minimal power outages before turning his attention to official town business. Boudreau announced that the Fall Special Town Meeting is set for Monday, November 3, at 7 p.m. in the Scituate High School auditorium, adding that the warrant is now available on the town website. He also issued a reminder that second-quarter real estate and personal property taxes are due that same day. Additionally, the town will partner again with Auctions International for a surplus equipment auction, which Boudreau noted often generates a lot of interest from the public.
Honoring local service members remains a priority for the town as November approaches. Scituate Post 144 is coordinating a Veterans Day celebration on November 11, featuring a free turkey luncheon provided by The Voyage restaurant. Boudreau detailed the day’s itinerary, starting with a ceremony at the Senior Center flagpole at 10:45 a.m., followed by a luncheon with live 70s and 80s music. We would also like to know the branch of service and the years you served, Boudreau noted, reminding veterans that reservations are limited to 130 guests and must be made by November 7.
Representing the School Committee, Janice Limblum shared a series of athletic and academic updates, spotlighting the golf team's impressive 16-2 record. Looking ahead to the weekend, she highlighted a Friday block party organized by student government prior to the football game, which will feature various vendors in the parking lot. Limblum also noted a scheduling shift for the School Building Committee, stating that on Wednesday, October 15th, the school building committee will meet at 5:00, not 5:30, to allow some members to get to another meeting. Other school events include high school picture retakes on Wednesday and a Coffee with Caregivers session on Friday morning.
