The Scituate Select Board met on August 5, 2025, to address several critical infrastructure upgrades and community donations. Town Administrator James Boudreau opened the meeting with a report on the successful Heritage Day weekend and an update on the town’s water status, noting that the reservoir is currently four inches below the spillway. Boudreau also highlighted the ongoing progress at the new water treatment plant, which is nearly 40 percent complete. Regarding the necessity of new DPW equipment, Boudreau explained the utility of a new sewer vacuum truck, recalling a past emergency involving a grease clog near the reservoir and stating, it’s a very handy truck to have. Board member Nico Afanasenko supported the procurement, remarking on the value of protecting town assets: someone who deals in the business world at the speed of business to realize how much this can actually save us over years and years, thank you so much.

The board welcomed John Baron, CEO of Liberty Bay Credit Union, who presented a $3,700 donation to the Fire Department for a retractable awning for the Special Operations truck. Baron noted the credit union's commitment to the town, saying, a big piece of being a community organization is supporting our local community and certainly we're very happy to be able to help out in a small way. The awning will provide shelter for crews during long-term dive operations and command post activities in inclement weather. Motion Made by James Gilmore to accept a generous donation from Liberty Bay Credit Union for a value of $3,700 for a retractable awning for the special operations fire truck from Mr. John Baron, chief executive officer. Motion Passed 5-0 Chair Andrew Goodrich praised the durability of the town's new facilities, observing, the caliber of durability, the rebar layout in this is intense and the all the piping and the conduit, this thing is massive.

Progress on the water treatment plant brought some concerns from local residents regarding construction dust and runoff. Susan, a resident of Chief Justice Cushing Highway, told the board she often has to sweep up debris after rainstorms, noting, it is monumental when it’s a big rainstorm. Vice Chair Susan Harrison expressed satisfaction with the project’s fiscal management, stating, I appreciate an update without a change request. In a move toward coastal resilience, the board awarded a contract to "column of engineers" to develop flood hazard mitigation strategies for the Harbor Business District. Board member Freya Schlegel, participating via Zoom, spoke highly of the project's direction, noting, it was a very well-designed plan. The board also finalized several administrative matters, including the appointment of James Gilmore as the town's representative to the MBTA Advisory Board. Gilmore expressed his readiness to advocate for the town, saying, with Scituate involved going forward we're going to be aggressive.
